The awakening and translation of the canal's memory and life mode by space
Individual work
From October, 2022 to December, 2022
Over history, the Grand Canal assumes the function of a waterway and becomes a link between time and space. On both sides of the canal is the life, culture, and economy of the land and water. As an important city by the Grand Canal, Yangzhou once attracted merchants from the Shanxi region to settle down because of its prosperous commerce. Foreigners and locals mingled with each other and lived along the river, forming a unique way of life. As the canal declined, so did the way of life it created. In my personal, architectural space can awaken people's sleeping memories through the creation of a spatial atmosphere and the reproduction of design elements. The translation of traditional architectural spaces is the best choice, because the new way of life is not born out of thin air, but thrives from roots.
